crematorium
The new crematorium located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur embraces tropical architectural principles to create a serene, respectful, and environmentally responsive space. Designed with deep overhangs, open corridors, and wide roof eaves, the structure emphasizes natural ventilation and daylighting to minimize reliance on mechanical systems. The use of clerestory windows and shaded glazing allows soft daylight to filter into the interiors, creating a calming ambiance for visitors. The architecture is grounded in local context, utilizing locally sourced bricks, clay roof tiles, and timber finishes that reflect Malaysia’s rich construction heritage. The main canopy structure, supported by exposed columns and natural textures, provides a welcoming yet solemn atmosphere at the arrival point. Surrounded by landscaped greenery and a reflective water body, the crematorium fosters a quiet connection with nature, reinforcing dignity and comfort for mourners. The design highlights sustainability, cultural sensitivity, and climatic responsiveness within an urban spiritual infrastructure.
